The “I” Illusion: Unmasking Your Ego and Reclaiming Wholeness

Just like all my posts, this one is designed to spark a new way of thinking within you. Before we dive into the fascinating topic of the Ego and the word “I,” let me share a bold idea: we are, in a sense, the “devils.” More precisely, your Ego is the Devil.

And guess what? Your Ego has a name, and it’s the same for everyone: “I.”

Think about it. Every time we refer to ourselves, we instinctively say “I.” This simple word points to a single, seemingly separate unit – our individual being. We’ve been taught since childhood to use “I” without question.

If someone calls out “Hey You!”, we automatically turn our heads and respond. But have you ever stopped to ask: Who says I have to answer to titles given to me by society or others, like “You”? The same profound question applies to “I.” Why do we so readily refer to ourselves in the singular with this word, without ever questioning it?

The Illusion of Separation

The truth is, there is no singular “you” that can truly be referred to as “I.” There never has been, and there never will be. We are all interconnected, and the feeling of separation is just that – an illusion. This is a deep concept, and while it extends to other words like “it” (which we use to refer to what isn’t “I” or “us”), let’s focus on the powerful word “I” for now.

So, your Ego is the part of you that feels like a separate individual. But in reality, it’s part of an expansive, hidden network of connections – what many call “The Collective.” For a day, try to consciously avoid using the word “I.” Pay close attention to how often it slips into your thoughts and speech.

There’s immense power in this word, but it’s often been corrupted. Here lies the sacred mystery behind the “Devil” in countless stories: it’s a metaphor for the Ego – the individual, the “I.” So, who’s your “devil” now, and who birthed all your personal “demons”? If you’re still with me, you’re likely starting to grasp the profound implications.

As the enlightened Sri Ramana Maharshi said:

“The ego itself is the devil. The source of all troubles.”

Embracing Confusion: The Gateway to Wisdom

Are you feeling a bit confused? I sincerely hope you are! (And no, that’s not the “devil” in me rooting for your confusion out of spite.) I hope you’re confused because all truly great knowledge is often preceded by a dense fog of uncertainty. This confusion never lasts long; it’s a powerful sign that you’re on the verge of a breakthrough.

Our “aha!” moments, those sudden flashes of understanding, only arrive after the confusion clears. We can’t leave ignorance without first passing through the doorway of confusion. The only way to truly grasp wisdom is to first be disoriented by it. I actually rejoice when I feel confused, because it means new understanding is just around the corner.

Think about it: allow yourself to be confused now, and then when this truth finally clicks into place after reading this post, please come back and share your experience. Perhaps you can even politely “confuse” others in this sacred way, just as I’ve tried to do for you.

The True Fall: Disconnecting Masculine and Feminine

The “fall of humanity” wasn’t just about the Ego; it was also about entering a state of separation between our divine masculine and divine feminine energies, both within ourselves and in the world. This disconnect is the root cause of much of the imbalance in human consciousness today.

We often ignore the energetic “twin” pairs within our own bodies, leading to physical and spiritual disharmony. For instance, our right and left sides, the front and back of our bodies, and paired organs like our kidneys are all energetically linked. Modern medicine often misses these vital connections, treating symptoms in isolation rather than addressing the root cause, which I believe often lies in these energetic imbalances.

The Great Work: Uniting Within

The good news is that there are many ways to balance the masculine and feminine forces within yourself. It requires dedication – what alchemists called “The Great Work.” Achieving an alchemical marriage of these inner forces is the journey to awaken your wild, untamed Shakti – a powerful energy often referred to as Kundalini rising. This potent force is birthed from within you once your divine inner masculine and feminine are united. Om Shakti Om!

In Closing

The esoteric mystery behind the “devil” is that it represents the Ego. And we, as English speakers, refer to our Ego, our “devil,” as “I” without question. The greatest truths often bring the most confusion, but push through these clouds! Their very presence is an assurance that understanding is near.

Artists like Switchfoot have been singing about these mystical undertones for a while, for those who are “in the know” and understand the symbols at play. You can learn a lot about yourself and your personal psychology from music that carries these deeper meanings.

Remember: There is no true singularity; we are all connected, we are all one. Don’t let the “devil” (your Ego) lie to you or make you believe otherwise.

With Love and Light,

Yours Truly, Frater Zac
